Is wax good for your hair?

0

Hair waxes have long been known as one of the best ways to create a smooth, natural hairstyle. However, with the rise of competing styling products such as gels, clays, and creams, hair wax as we know it seems to have taken a back seat. But, made largely from natural ingredients, should wax be one of our go-to hairstyling products?

Unlike water-based products like gels and foams, hair waxes do not dry hard. This makes them ideal for a hairstyle that you can makeover throughout the day without removing moisture from your hair like other products can.

Let’s explore how beneficial the use of wax can be for our hair.

Hair waxes with natural ingredients

The advantage of most hair waxes over other types of styling products is that they are usually made from natural ingredients. You will find that most brands’ products are alcohol free so unlike gel, they will not dry out your hair and scalp.

Take Celebrity Hairstylist Oliver J Woods Natural, Preservative Free Nigella wax, for example. This wax was not only designed to create smooth styles, but it uses active ingredients which also improve the condition of the hair. This is largely thanks to black seed oil, an ingredient that has natural antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Like many other brands, it also contains a portion of natural beeswax and sunflower wax, which nourish the hair and scalp.

The natural properties of wax products like this mean that they can also be used on facial hair, to style eyebrows, beards, sideburns and mustaches.

Much better for your hair than gel

If you’ve been using this’ 90s style wet look gel for a long time and still aren’t sure if you should ditch it for a more natural, healthier wax product, you should listen to what the experts have to say.

According to most hairdressers, gels can be bad for your hair over time as they tend to alter your hair’s moisture level and reduce sebum production. This creates dry, brittle and brittle hair and gives rise to scalp itchy and dander issues.

Do not overdo it

Of course, hair wax can prove to be beneficial for your hair over other products, but – as with all things in life – you can have too much of the good stuff.

Dr Eid Alhajar of the Bizrahmed Centers, a certified hair transplant surgeon from the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, says we need to be careful not to apply too much wax, too often.

“Using a styling product like hair wax is not inherently harmful, but it’s important not to overdo it,” he recommends.

“Excessive use of wax can lead to discoloration and damage because it upsets the pH balance of hair and makes it unhealthy. This can cause blackheads and skin impurities and in some cases an allergic reaction may occur after application.

The key here is moderation. Use a small amount of wax to style your hair. And as before, be sure to wash it well, an issue we’ll cover next.

Build and wash

Another problem that wax can bring is that if it is not washed properly, it can start to make your hair greasy. And because the wax essentially creates a seal around the hair and scalp, it could have the effect of trapping the oil near your skin.

However, the shampoo giant Head shoulders offers some practical tips for washing wax:

“To make sure your scalp stays healthy while you use wax, try applying a little shampoo to dry hair first,” recommends the brand. “This helps the concentrated shampoo to bind to the wax which is otherwise hydrophobic – before it is diluted.

“After you’ve washed that, try washing normally again, applying your shampoo to wet hair and you should be able to get rid of all the wax. “

A regular washing routine is essential when using any product, especially wax. This will ensure that your scalp stays as healthy as possible.

How to apply correctly

If you’ve decided wax is the right styling product for you but haven’t used it before, or you’re not sure how to use it correctly, here are some pro tips from the famous salon. the street. Tony and Guy on how to use it to create killer looks.

Step 1: Scrape off the nail’s worth of hair wax with the back of your index finger.

2nd step: Warm it up: Wipe off the product in the palm of your opposite hand and work between your hands until it is completely melted, evenly distributed, and free of lumps. You should almost feel like there is nothing on your hands.

Step 3: Apply wax to damp or dry hair for a more styled look, or to damp hair for a more natural look.

Step 4: Start applying to the back of the head. “Since the majority of our hair is towards the back of our head, this is the perfect place to start waxing and create the base of the hairstyle,” says the salon.

Step 5: Alternate hands during application. As you work from back to front, be sure to alternate your hands as you go. “This will ensure that the product is applied evenly as it transfers from your hands to your client’s hair,” he adds.

Step 6: Close your hand as you work towards the ends to make sure the wax is applied evenly throughout the hair.

Step 7: Once applied, run your hands through your hair and style as desired.

Because hair wax generally has exceptional hold, you can style a men’s short hairstyle however you want. You can also finish with hair spray to completely set the style.
